I'm really sorry -- I forgot to do this yesterday, plus I'm just feeling weird.
It's the game shows that you grew up with -- The Price Is Right, Let's Make A Deal, and more... but wait, who's hosting? and why is Leslie Nielsen part of this? Welcome to Game Show Marathon, a short (4 week) look into all the great game shows of the past. Ricki Lake hosts this.
First off, I have to admit I was never a huge fan of some of the shows, like The Price Is Right, but I had to bend my ear when this came on because of the fact that game shows are looking to rebound. The game play is pretty much what you would expect it to be. Celebrity contestants, including Lance Bass, Kathy Najimy and Brande Roderick, play for their favorite charities and the players at home.
So what's wrong with this game? The only thing I really don't care for would be the pace of the game. For some reason, in the hour of The Price Is Right, only 3 games were played. Why? They could have easily squeezed 5 or 6 games in. Still, the retro feel of some of these games really brought back memories and Ricki Lake does a decent job considering that she's only hosting each game one time.
Now for the good stuff -- a lot of the things that you loved, including the retro '70s look for the boxes and the big wheel, a staple since 1972, are here, albeit a bit miniaturized and it does take you back to the days of yesteryear. The celebrities play a little more recklessly than a civilian contestant, still it's fun to watch and the upcoming shows look promising.
In conclusion, if you've missed the game shows of the past, give a look to the Game Show Marathon. Who knows, you might take a walk down memory lane with the shows you're gonna watch. I give Game Show Marathon (three cats carrying bowls of rice and chopsticks out of a possible five)
